25 Week Checkup

Today Steve and I had my 25 week checkup and in 8 days since I was last at the doc office, I've gained 2 1/2 lbs and I'm measuring at 27 weeks. I'm 3 days away from 26 weeks, so that's not bad. BGB's heartbeat was 150 bpm. We met another doctor in the practice and he was nice. Had a good sense of humor too. I brought up my weight gain with him and he said that when you eat more, you gain more. Thanks doc! Wasn't aware of that. :-)

Our next appointment is September 19th where I will have my my 28 week checkup, a growth ultrasound and I'll take the fun glucose test everyone always talks about hating. When I get to the doc, I'll drink the sugar syrup, have the growth ultrasound, have my 28 week checkup and hopefully by the time I'm done with all of that, I won't have to wait too long for them to draw blood and test my blood sugar levels. I hope I pass the test! I don't know if I could give up sweets! That would be a challenge!

25 Weeks!

Today baby girl baum is 25 weeks in the womb. We are experiencing windy conditions from Hurricane Irene as she batters the NC coast. Our cushions from our patio chairs flew all over the place - so I brought them into the garage. I've been checking on Mama Jo periodically b/c she only lives about 1 hour away from the coast and has been w/o power since about 5am. She been through a number of hurricanes, but I still worry about her and the pups.

Back to baby girl baum - she is just over 1 1/2 lbs. and is about the size of rutabaga. I ended up going to the doctor last Tuesday b/c I started worrying about the pain in my side. Baby girl's heartbeat  sounded great (143 bpm) and everything else checked out fine - so although the doc wasn't quite sure what the problem was, we both agreed it probably WAS  a pulled oblique. My poor abs are so weak. The pain has since disappeared - thank you Lord. I have gained about 4 lbs since my last appt. and am measuring at 25 weeks.

I've been feeling good. I would say I crave sweets over salty foods, but I will definitely eat either if placed in front of me! Our 25 week appointment is Wednesday. I'm ready to feel some hiccups too! I watched a little video that said I should be able to feel them soon.

24 Weeks

Last weekend, Diana came for a visit and we did a little shopping - something we're both pretty good at doing. That girl always has her camera - so of course we took some pictures, making use of my tripod since Steve wasn't home. Here are the pics - 24 week bumpdate!

Bumps and Thumps

Dear Baby Girl Baum~
Just a few minutes ago you thumped me so hard that my skin jumped and I saw it through my shirt. You are one strong little thing and pretty big, I think. You're about the length of an ear of corn!

I think I pulled a muscle or something on Saturday reaching for something at an awkward angle. I called the nurse yesterday to see if I needed to come in, but she thinks it is probably just round ligament pain. It's constant discomfort though so I'm keeping an eye on it and will go in if I feel I need to. Daddy was worried about you - but I told him I think you are fine - since I feel you moving around in there.

Only 15 or 16 more weeks until we get to meet you - I can't believe it. Keep on growing and getting strong and we will be anxiously awaiting your arrival. One request - take it easy on me when you decide it's time to come into the world!

I Love A Good Deal!

With fall just around the corner (thank the Lord), I need to invest in some jeans/pants to prepare for the cooler weather to come. I ran over to JC Penny at lunch yesterday and cruised through the maternity section to find their 60% off rack. I scored big! I got 2 pairs of cargo style pants and 2 pairs of jeans for $65! We don't really HAVE $65 to spend on clothes - but I NEED these pants or I'm gonna be a cold mama in the cooler weather. Oh - and I bought some godiva chocolate covered pretzels and a reusable shopping bag to put me at the amount I needed to save $15. So yeah - go me!

It's Been a While...

Wow - I haven't posted in 2 weeks and I most certainly have not given a bumpdate in almost 3 weeks! Sorry about that! We've had a good amount going on...good and bad.


Joey loved the couch - 2007



 Bad news 1st b/c why end on a bad note? Last week we had to put our sweet Joey dog to sleep. It's been a long time coming - he was 15 years old and his health was definitely declining. Long story short - the doctor believed that he had cancer, among a few other problems. Although Joey was not in a situation where we had to rush him to the emergency vet and make a decision right then and there to put him down, it was advised to put him down in the coming weeks due to a panel of blood test we had run on him while at the vet for what we thought may be a repeat urinary tract infection. This tops the list of one of THE hardest things I have had to do in my 33 years of life. But Joey led a great life and I'm glad I was a part of it for the last 6 years. So here's to my sweet "buddy baum" - you are missed so much. Your daddy and I will always love you!

I mentioned in my last post that I was headed to the Kenny Chesney concert with Karen and then off to the beach with mom. Besides the looming decision Steve and I had to make about Joey and when to say goodbye to him - I had a wonderful time at the concert & the beach. Karen and I parked THE FARTHEST AWAY from the concert due to our late arrival and parking availability - so we had probably about a 1 mile walk just to get to the concert. That was a little rough - but I made it there and back in one piece! While at the beach, I wore my bikini on Sunday and my tankini on Monday. It was definitely hot!

Myrtle Beach - 8.7.11

Last weekend was our semi-annual girls weekend at the beach and I didn't take many pics at all! It was a weekend of 1sts - only 6 people came to the beach (the smallest group we've ever had in the 9 years going), only 3 of the 6 actually stepped foot ON the beach (me being one of them) and 3 of the 6 girls are currently expecting babies (me being one of them, of course). But with no pictures being taken, this means I have NO BUMPDATE PICTURE! So I took this one in the bathroom at work:



23 weeks, 5 days

BGB has grown from being the length of a carrot, to a spaghetti squash to a large mango! Pretty amazing that on Saturday I'll be 6 months pregnant!

Concerts and Beaches

Dear Baby Girl Baum~

Tonight we will go to our 3rd concert together - Kenny Chesney. He is one of mine and your daddy's favorite entertainers. Daddy will not be with us though, he's not a concert goer. Instead I will be bouncing you around to the beat with my friend Karen. She's my concert-going buddy and you will get to know her well once we welcome you to the world!

Tomorrow you and I will be headed to the beach with Mama Jo! This will be our 2nd trip to the beach with Mama Jo and it's definitely much hotter than our last beach trip in June! Fortunately the place we are staying has a large pool with a lot of shaded areas, so if the beach is unbearable, we'll head to the pool. I'm looking forward to sinking my toes into the sand and baring my baby bump! You are growing and growing and my belly is getting bigger and bigger - so it's time to show you off - bikini style!

21 Weeks!

This past Saturday at 21 weeks, BGB is described as being the length of a carrot. Eyebrows and lids are formed now.

The above picture is with one of my best friends from high school, Diana. We hadn't seen each other in a while (honestly, I'd hate to say it's been since November, but I really think that may have been the last time we saw each other), so I drove into Raleigh on Saturday and we met for lunch and spent the day shopping and catching up.

I've been feeling good. I do think I'm feeling her bump around in there b/c these feelings I keep getting are daily.

Cravings?
Probably KFC mashed potatoes and taco bell! I'm trying not to indulge in those cravings often, but I do give in every now and then (like last night when I had Steve pick up some KFC for me on his way home from work).

Swelling?
Steve and I both think I may be experiencing some swelling in my ankles/feet - but this 100+ degree weather may be contributing to that as well! I just prop my feet up on some pillows and relax on the couch!

Saturday it's off to the beach w/ mom and I can't wait!

Pregnancy Walk

Last week a co-worker who was visiting the office from CA asked if I was pregnant. I told her yes, due with a baby girl in December. She then replied with "I saw you yesterday and thought, that's a pregnancy walk." I suppose she saw me from behind.

Now...when I think of pregnancy walk, I think of a waddle. Lord help me if I'm already waddling!

"That's a Happy Baby"

We had BGBs "20 week" appointment today and everything checked out great! I'm really 21 weeks b/c I moved our appointment from last Thursday to today, since I wanted Steve to be there.

The doc measured my baby bump and I asked if I'm measuring exceptionally large because people are commenting on my belly size (see previous post). She reassured me that I'm measuring fine and there was no need to worry.

We then listened to the heartbeat and although I didn't get the bpm of BGB's heartbeat, the doc said "that's a happy baby."

I asked about my weight gain b/c ya'll? I've gained 11 lbs since my last appointment 5 weeks ago. LOL But, again, I was reassured that my weight gain is fine. Good to know!

Our next appointment is in 4 weeks.
