I half-passed the glucose...

Which means I half-failed too.

Darn-it ya’ll.

I didn't pass my 3 hour glucose test I took yesterday! My fasting blood and 1 hour blood levels were normal but my 2 hr and 3 hr blood levels were abnormal…

Bummer. But it’s not off the charts bad where I have to give myself insulin shots – so that’s a plus!

I am waiting to hear from the hospital where I’ll get some nutritional diabetes education and I’ll meet w/ the high-risk OB at my next appt. to get a plan together on how to manage this for the remainder of my pregnancy (only 10 weeks to go – I can’t believe it).

Just wanted to pass along an update! I'll have more once I've met with the people at the hospital!

And Now, We Wait

Well - I did it.

I got through 3 hours of sitting at the doc office and 4 tubes of blood being drawn thanks to my computer, itunes & FRIENDS (my favorite tv series). I brought Season 9 of FRIENDS and after listening to itunes for a while, switched over to the distraction of the show. I set the alarm on my phone to go off at 9:45am, 10:45am and 11:45am so my blood could be drawn, but I was of course clock watching and didn't need the use of the alarm at any time this morning.

Thankfully the nurse in the lab knew how to draw blood and it wasn't too bad, although I don't know that I've ever had my arms stuck 5 times in 4 days!

My Number = 165

I failed the 1 hour glucose test. Oh how I am bummed but am hopeful (prayerful) that it was a false fail and I will come out in the normal range when I go in for the 3 hour glucose test tomorrow. Anything over 130 is considered abnormal and my number was 165.

Plans for tomorrow?

  • Arrive at the doc office at 8:30am (having fasted since 12am)
  • Have fasting blood drawn
  • Drink the sugary stuff
  • Wait an hour
  • Have blood drawn again
  • Wait an hour
  • Have blood drawn again
  • Wait in hour
  • Have blood drawn again (for the 4th and final time)
I imagine I won't know the results until Friday, but let's pray everything comes back normal!

28 Weeks, 2 days - Doc Visit Update

I could just stare at this all day. The clarity is amazing. Look at that sweet face (and cute little hand by her face)!

Yesterday we had our 28 week OB appointment, the growth ultrasound and the glucose test. I'm awaiting the results of the glucose test and PRAYING I passed. Recently the numbers were adjusted on what is considered passing, so the PA warned me not to worry if I get a call and have to come in again to do the 3 hour test.

BGB is measuring in the 70th percentile, estimated weight comes in over 3 lbs. (a little larger than the average 28 week babe) and everything looks good!

Only about 11 weeks to go! Wow.

And that glucose test? It REALLY isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be!

Kids Everywear Consignment Sale

While searching for a glider on Craigslist, I stumbled across an ad for a huge consignment sale that happens in Raleigh 2x/year and decided to register for it and see if Mama Jo could come into Raleigh and join me to shop. It worked out perfectly that she was able to come on Tuesday and we had a good time shopping through all of the baby items ranging from newborn and beyond. We spent probably $50 combined and came out with a base for the infant carrier for mom's car, some toys/puzzles, clothes and a cute table to go into her nursery. Mom even got a cute wreath for her door (not baby related, of course). This is a sale we will definitely hit up yearly - a great way to stock up on future clothing for cheap! My friend Cameron mentioned a sale that is very similar that happens in the mountains where she lives. She was able to take advantage of the sale this year and rack up on clothing for her boys to grow into over the next year. What a great idea! Mom took a pic of me and I had one of the volunteers at the sale take a pic of the 2 of us - so I will post those pics once mom sends them. Thanks Mom for joining me and buying some goods for BGB!

CLICK HERE for the link to the sale - it's open to the public starting tomorrow!

UPDATE - Here are the pics!

27 Weeks!

This girl is so darn active. It's such an amazing feeling when she tosses and turns, kicks and punches in there.

I had a very busy weekend but baby girl didn't suck too much energy out of me and i managed the busyness quite well! I took a 1/2 day off of work on Friday and headed into Charlotte to go to the rehearsal dinner of a wedding I was directing for a friend of a friend, Meagan. I stayed with my friend Emily for the weekend and got to see her new house. It's great! Saturday I got a long overdue hair cut and then hung out with the Sanford's until it was time to go to the church for the wedding. It went well - I hope Meagan and Justin were pleased with the end result. Saturday night I had dinner with some of my friends from college. It's always a good time getting together and the food was delicious. On our way home, I drove through my 1st checkpoint of my life! Sunday called for a Bojangles breakfast - cajun filet biscuit and 2 boberry biscuits. Emily helped me eat the boberry biscuits. :-) Then it was a semi-long (since I was tired) drive back home, but I took a nice nap and relaxed for the evening once I was home.

Steve and I are trying to get our house in order for baby girl. Steve has really been doing most of the work during the day while he's home and we're (he's) making great progress. We also went to target and tried to wrap up the registry there. We still have some work to do on our Babies R Us registry - hopefully we can knock that out this weekend.

Baby girl is just over 2 lbs, measuring about 14 1/2 inches from head to toe and is about the size of a head of cauliflower. It's a bit wild to think that she still has a good 4-6 (or so) lbs. to gain over the course of the next 12 weeks.

Hog Heaven

Seriously?

Just look at this adorable piggy bank I just bought for BGB! LOVE IT!

26 Weeks!

I'm in my 26th week of pregnancy - a milestone I've been somewhat nervous about, as it was at this time in my mom's womb when I decided I was going to enter this world! Yes - I was born at 26 weeks, weighed 1 lb., 15 oz. and was helicoptered to UNC hospital where I spent the 1st 3 months of my life in an incubator growing and getting strong.

I've thought every day this week about how amazing that is. What a miracle it is that I survived. And now I'm carrying my own child and praying she stays put until 38 weeks at least!

We had a busy holiday weekend - visiting family in Maiden, NC on Saturday, continuing on to the mountains of NC on Sunday to spend some time with my high school buddies Karen, Shannon (and her family) & Cameron. I headed home Monday after packing up my car w/ baby stuff that Cameron has so graciously loaned BGB. What a blessing - for real!

My aunt took a bumpdate pic of me, but I'm waiting to get it so I can post it. I did a HORRIBLE job at taking pictures. I mean HORRIBLE in that fact that I hardly took any! I did manage to get some great shots of Ben & Kari's daughter, Hana. She came home from Ethiopia last month and Ben and Kari are just over the  moon. I'll post pics soon!
